Caydens In-Home Newborn Session

Client Experience

Do you want to book a newborn session but you're worried about the health and safety of your little one?

You're safe with me.

Referrals

Everyone knows you can trust the opinion of a close friend or family member. This is why small businesses love referrals. I get it, it's hard to trust someone you meet online. It's especially hard to trust them to come into your home and handle your family with care. Though I have over 90 google reviews, all of which are 5 stars, it's just easier to trust that review when it's coming from a friend. My good client Ana referred me to Caydens family for newborn family photos. Trusting their friends opinion of me, they reached out to me to chat about in-home family photos with their new baby boy.

What I offer

When someone reaches out about newborn photos, I alway make sure that they are aware of the type of photos that I offer. This blog post is so helpful in understanding what I offer. Michelle wanted to make sure that I offered props such as cute little baskets and wraps to swaddle thier new addition. When it comes to props I try to keep them at a minimum because I prefer to highlight the timeless love and emotion of your family and I notice that props can often times distract us from this. I do however offer a few "props" in terms of baskets and holders so that I can capture those adorable newborn portraits. I also have been trained to wrap your newborn in 3 different swaddles to keep them warm, cuddled, and happy.

Safety of your newborn

Safety is my #1 concern at all times when it comes to newborn photography. I have spent 5 years of my adult life as a full time nanny and over those 5 years have helped raise 6 newborns. I have also taken multiple courses on safe newborn handling in addition to 2 courses on newborn wrapping and posing for photography. Often times I ask the mom or dad to assist me in capturing newborn portraits so that your newborn is always being supported and watched.

Health of your family

The health of your newborn is also, always on the forefront of my mind. I promise to reschedule your session if I am feeling under the weather in the slightest. The last thing that I want is to get your new baby sick. I always wash my hands upon arrival of your home. I also always ask in your questionnaire if you would like me to wear a mask. I want you to feel comfortable, and I want you to call the shots. My newborn outfits and wraps are washed in-between each client as well. You're safe with me.

What rooms to use

The most important thing to consider when deciding on what room to use for your family newborn photos is what room you love the most! What room have you decorated to perfectly fit your style? Though natural lighting is beautiful and highly preferred, I'm a professional photographer so I can adapt to any room that you choose. I always come prepared with flashes so I can capture your family in any room that you love. Like most clients, Michelle decided to take all of the photos in the living room and nursery which is my personal favorite.

What photos are most important to you

Before I arrive for your newborn family photos I always ask, "what is the #1 most important photo to you? Newborn portraits, detailed shots (hands, feet, close ups) family photos, sibling photos, etc..." Although I always try my absolute best to capture a good variety of photos oftentimes your newborn will get fussy towards the end. I ask my clients to consider what image you'd like captured the most, because that is where we will start. Michelle really wanted to capture some photos of just Cayden alone, as well as some with his big brother Jaxon so this is where we started. I want my clients to voice their opinions and be heard!

Getting your child involved

Oftentimes, children have a hard time adjusting to new siblings. This often means that they may "act out" when they normally wouldn't, that's ok. I promise that I will be patient and understand. If newborn photos with siblings are important to you, here are some tips and tricks to help: talk to them about meeting me, tell them I am coming to capture and celebrate their new family, prep them to listen well to my instructions, try to avoid bribery and instead explain to them that photos are a fun experience (because they will be!) It's important that the big siblings feel special during this adjustment period which is why I try my best to give them just as much attention as the newborn.

Capturing newborn photos with siblings

I love to capture a few photos of your older child interacting with their new sibling, as well as a posed photo! Whether your child is old enough to hold your newborn or not, I have poses that can accommodate both. Jaxon was the man! He was excited to be involved which made it easy to capture photos of him with his new brother. Since Michelle expressed the importance of a photo of their newborn baby with his sibling I made sure to capture this photo when I first got there. You never know how long big brother or the new baby will be happy so if they are happy when I arrive, I get things set up right away so we can quickly capture those great photos.

Patient and efficient

As you can imagine, a good family/newborn photographer has to be both super patient and super efficient. When Cayden needed a cuddle from mama or a top off on milk, I promised to be patient. When Cayden was happy and content, I was efficient as possible. The last thing I want my client to do is to stress out about their newborn well... being a newborn! If Cayden cries, let's take a step away and take the time to comfort him. I only schedule 1 newborn session per day so that I can be as patient as we need to be. It's important to keep in mind that for an in-home full session, you're not paying me hourly, you're paying me to capture 15-20 good photos of your newborn and family and that's how long I'll stay.

Receiving your photos

Once our session was over I began editing the photos. Since Cayden was born in winter, my schedule is a little slower and I was able to deliver their photos in about a week. I delivered them to them in an online gallery from which they were able to download in high resolution and keep them forever. Once downloaded, these images are without a watermark and can be shared and printed whenever and wherever you'd like. The best thing about an in-home newborn family photoshoot is that you are able to share the love, joy, and emotion of your new arrival with friends and family around the entire globe. Cayden has loved ones all across the country. Though there are miles and miles between friends and family they can easily share these photos with them.

Printing your photos

I have found that printing photos from your newborn photoshoot is something that is so easy to procrastinate. As a newborn photographer I want more than anything for Michelle to fill their home with photos from our session. That is why I have made it so easy for my clients to print their photos. I have an online print lab attached to your album which I highly recommend because the quality is fantastic. It's simple and quick for you to choose your favorite photos and have them delivered to your home. It's not easy to get out of the house with a newborn which is why I have made it so that you don't have to. If you'd like to print your photos somewhere local, I recommend Woodward Camera in Birmingham, Michigan.

Client Experiences

As an in home newborn/family photographer I know that the photos I take of your family will be loved and passed down for generations. It's so important to me that my clients feel the same way about their experience with me. I strive to create an experience where my clients feel safe, heard, loved, and cared for. When you're spending your hard earned money, the last thing that you want to feel is regret. I promise to put your families health and safety first. I promise to listen to your concerns and wants. I promise to love and care for your family, and your photos. I promise to do my best, always.

Referrals

It was because of a past clients referral to a friend that I was able to meet and work with Michelle and her beautiful family. As a small business, reviews and referrals are what pay my bills and put food on my table. I rely on my clients sharing their good experiences. Whether they share them to friends or family in person, online or by writing a google review. Thank you!
